Biography

Wiliam Faxon was a journalist and publisher. He edited and published the Hartford Courant before, in 1856,  establishing the Hartford Press, which was the first republican newspaper in Hartford, CT. He became Chief Clerk Navy Department on March 19, 1861 and kept that position until 1866. He was then elected Assistant Secretary of the Navy on February 12, 1866, assuming the position on June 1, 1866. On March 3, 1869 he resigned from his position as Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

Biography:
