Biography
Charles Rollin was born January 30, 1661 in Paris, France. He studied at the College du Plessis and became an educator and author. His notable work was the Histoire Ancienne. In a letter from Frances Adeline Seward to her father on January 20, 1861, she writes about reading from Rollins History, with a friend by the name of Ellen Perry. Volume I and Volume III of Rollin’s book, The Ancient History of the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Macedonians, and Grecians, are held in the repository at the Seward Family Museum. Rollin died September 14, 1741.
