Biography
John Alsop King was the son of Rufus King and the brother of James Gore King. He was born in New York City and studied in Paris, before being admitted to the bar. He served as a member of the State assembly from 1819-1821, and again in 1832, 1838 and 1840. He served in the State Senate from 1823-1825. He was the Governor of New York in 1857 and 1858. He was also a member of the peace convention of 1861. He died in Jamaica, Long Island, N.Y.
He married Mary King, in 1810, with whom he had 8 children.
