Mr. George Plitt was the founder of the Central Iron Foundry, Central and Eastern avenues, and senior member of the firm of George Plitt & Son. He came to Baltimore when 14 years old. He was bound out to a shoemaker, became an office boy, then became clerk and was finally admitted to the firm of A. Weiskittel & Co. About 20 years ago he went into business for himself at the Central Iron Foundry. Mr. Plitt was widely known through his business interests, his connection with prominent German organizations and as a Mason. He was a charter member of Germania Lodge, No. 160 and was a member of Jerusalem Chapter, Maryland Commandery, Knights Templars. He was president of the East End Building and Loan Association, was a member of the German Historical Society and a director of the German Home for the Aged. He was also a prominent member of Zion Lutheran Church, Gary street. He had three sons: A.C., William L. and C. A. Plitt and three daughters: Minnie, Louisa and Frances Plitt. He died of Bright's disease at his home, 207 South Washington street.
