Biography

"US Congressman. The half brother of De Witt Clinton and Vice President George Clinton, he attended Newburgh Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1823 and practiced law in Newburgh, New York. He was the master in chancery of Orange County, judge of the court of common pleas of Orange County, director of the old Newburgh Whaling Company and served as a Colonel in the New York State Militia. In 1841, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh and Twenty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1845. Not a candidate for reelection, he was the director of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad project."
