Mentioned in 18640605FMS_AWS by FMS. FMS writes, "Since writing the first parts of my letter we have the Journal with intelligence of P.A. Porters20  death, what sorrow for his family." A 1864 New York Times article describes Porter's death at the Battle of Cold Harbor. "Such an occasion met with such a response when the people of Niagara assembled together on Saturday last, to attend the funeral of Col. PETER A. PORTER, who was killed in the assault made upon the works of the enemy on the north bank of the Chickahominy, on Friday, June 3...Col. PORTER would have been thirty-seven years of age if he had lived until the fourteenth day of July next. He was the third of the family indirect descent, who had served in the armies of their country in its three most important struggles."
