Biography

John Balmes was born and died in Spain. He studied theology and taught at the University of Cervera and Barcelona. From 1841 until his death he wrote theological works. 

Charles Sumner mentioned Balmes in his letter to WHS in 1858. He tells Henry to read Balmes work which explains the papal Bill the Pope issued in 1839 denouncing slavery.
