Biography
Samuel Lucas was born in the United Kingdom. He married Margaret Bright, sister of John Bright. He was a political and community activist, joining the Anti-Corn law League, and and founding the Lancashire Public Schools Association. He was also a member of the Society for the Repeal of Taxes Upon Knowledge. He admired the free school systems of the United States of America and Canada. He was also a vocal supporter of the North in the Civil War, and strongly anti-slavery. He was best known for his position as the managing proprietor of the London Morning Star.
