"Civil War Confederate Army Officer, US Congressman. Elected to represent the 3rd district on South Carolina in the United States House of Representatives, serving first from 1853 to 1860. He served as a Colonel in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, where he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Cold Harbor on June 3, 1864 and died the following day in Richmond."
