Loraina (also known as Lurena) Brackett claimed to discover psychic abilities after being mesmerized in 1837 as a treatment of blindness caused by an accidental blow to the head. William L. Stone and Charles F. Durant both visited Brackett, but took opposing views on her clairvoyant abilities. In 18380122FMS_LMW1, FMS mentions reading about this in a review.
