Biography
A nephew of Washington Irving (son of Irving's brother Ebenezer), Pierre Paris Irving graduated from Columbia College in 1824 and entered the Episcopal clergy in 1836. He served at Trinity Episcopal Church in Geneva, NY beginning in 1836 as deacon and then serving as rector from 1837 to 1843. After leaving Trinity Church in Geneva, he became Secretary of the Foreign Committee of the Board of Missions for the Episcopal church. He served as rector of St. George's Church in New York, NY from 1843 to 1849. He then served from 1849 to 1875 at Christ Church in New Brighton, NY (on Staten Island).
