Rev. Abraham O. Stansbury worked with Dr. Gallaudet to open the American Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb at Hartford, CT. He was the superintendent there for one year before he began work with the New York Institution for the Deaf and Dumb from 1818 to 1821. His sister worked as a teacher at the New York Institution for the Deaf and Dumb from 1819 to 1832. In 18410725FMS_WHS1, Frances tells Henry of Miss Stansbury's death and mentions her and her brother's involvement with a Deaf and Dumb Asylum.
