Biography
Jesse Hoyt was an American lawyer and politician from New York. He studied under Martin Van Buren, and was admitted to the bar in 1819. In 1838 Van Buren appointed him Collector of the Port of New York. He was removed in 1841, after being accused of embezzlement. This scandal is mentioned in letters 18401113SSS_WHS.
