Biography

Archibald MacDougall was born in Scotland and is Clinton MacDougall's eldest brother. They were both living in New York for the early to middle part of their lives. In 1849, he married Emily Elizabeth Walker in Havana, NY, and five years later was ordained a Presbyterian minister at the Auburn Theological Seminary. He and Emily had four children, Frances Janet "Jennie," Anna Clinton, Mary Charlotte "Lottie," and Archibald Walker "Arch." By 1860, the family had seemingly settled in Dryden, which is how Fanny references Archibald in her 1862-1863 diary: "the Reverend Archibauld MacDougall, of Dryden." By 1870, he had moved to Bloomington, IL where he lived until the death of his wife in 1898. He then moved to live with a son in Missouri, and following that is listed in 1900 as living with the family of his daughter Anna Clinton in San Bernadino, CA. He died in Chicago in 1904, after Anna's death in 1902, and is buried in Bloomington, presumably with his wife.
