Biography

Archibald was sent by Scotland to be ambassador to Queen Anne in France. In 1561 he became a member of her Privy Council. He defended King James the 6th title to the throne, but then tried to have Mary restored to the throne and was the general of her forces in the 1658 battles against the Earl of Lennox. He was married first to Lady Jean Stewart. After Stewart's death he married Lady Jean Cunningham.
