"George W. Johnson: Age, 39 years. Enrolled August 1st, 1861 at Buffalo. Mustered in as a major October 21st, 1861 for a three-year tour of duty. Promoted to lieutenant colonel January 1st, 1863 and wounded in action July 12th, 1864 at Fort Stevens D.C. Died of his wounds July 29th, 1864."
