Biography

He was born in Licking County, Ohio in 1832 and studied law. He served in the Civil War from 1861-1865. Was Colonel in Company S from Illinois 30th Infantry Regiment in 1861. In 1864, while fighting alongside General Butler, he was severely wounded and lost the use of his right arm. He was promoted to Major and later Full Brig-General.
