Biography

He was a politician and businessman, who married Sarah Louise Burgoyne in 1839. He served in politics during the Civil War as a member of Congress, a Democrat, in 1861-1863. He was a War Democrat and supported the Republican cause. In 1850, he became director of the National Bank of New York and served as its president until 1870 which is why it may be likely that he is the "Mr Haight" who "gives 10,000" to the Goshen regiment.
