She states that: "Her master's name was Belt – & he is not loyal – Her old master is dead, & his son claims her I suppose" --- William Joseph Belt seems to be the "old master" being mentioned. Seeing as it is his son who take charge of Eliza and her family according to an 1862 emancipation document which lists Eliza and her children as his property.
