It appears likely that this is the "Lt Ostrander" that appeared in a 1837 letter from ExM to WHS. He had a connection with the State Senate of NY and was a member of a military regiment (he was a member of the 14th regt infimary of the 85th NY Vols) so it seems possible this is the Ostrander that ExM was referring to.
