Biography

Mary Dutton was the oldest child of Aaron and Dorcas Dutton. She grew up in the Connecticut clergy, her father was a minister known for his abolitionist beliefs. She opened a girls's school in New Haven, the Grove Hall Seminary, and served as principal there. FMS corresponded with a pupil of the school, Maria Avery, and Avery suggested that she could get FMS in contact with Dutton. It appears that Dutton never married or had children.
