Biography

Captain of the steamship Atlantic, which was wrecked on November 27, 1846 en route from New London, CT to New York City. Captain Dustan was killed in the disaster, along with 45 passengers and crew. The incident was widely covered in American and English newspapers. FMS writes about the wreck in letters to LMW and AHS in December 1846 (18461207FMS_LMW1, 18461209FMS_AHS), although she gives the captain's name as "Dunsan."
