Biography

William Groesbeck was born in New York, and moved with his parents to Ohio as an infant. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1836. He was elected as a Democrat to the 35th Congress and was a member of the peace convetion of 1861 held in Washington, D.C. as a means to prevent the impending war. He served in the State Senate from 1862-64 and was one of President Johnson's counsel in his impeachment trial in 1861.
