Biography

John Crafts Wright was born in Connecticut. He trained as a printer and edited the Troy Gazette for several years. He studied law in Connecticut and was admitted to the bar in Ohio. He served as United States District Attorney in 1817. He was elected to the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th Congresses. He moved to Cincinnati in 1835 where he published the Cincinnati Gazette. He was a delegate to and honorary president of the peace congress held in Washington in 1861 in an effort to devise means to precent the impending war.
