Biography

Electus Backus was a military officer. He graduated from West Point in 1824. He fought in the Sauk and Fox War in 1837, and against the Seminole Indians in Florida in 1840. He also fought in the Mexican-American War. After the war he was promoted to major and served at Fort Defiance, New Mexico. 
Electus Backus married Mary L. Backus and had a son Samuel Preston Backus.
