Biography
Samuel George Andrews was born in Derby, Connecticut on October 16, 1796 and was educated in public and classical schools in that state. He moved to Rochester, New York, with his parents in 1815 and was employed in the mercantile business. He served in local and state government as Clerk of the State Assembly from 1831-1832, Clerk of Monroe County 1834- 1837, Secretary of State Senate 1840- 1841, Postmaster of Rochester from 1842- 1845, Mayor of Rochester 1846-1850, and Representative in the 35th U.S. Congress from 1857- 1859. He died in Rochester, New York on June 11, 1863.
