Lavinia (nee McCraken) Scott was born circa 1814 in Rochester, NY, and lived in Milwaukee, WI in the mid 1800's. Her husband was Martin Scott, who was killed in the Mexican-American War. Lavinia was the daughter of Gardner McCraken, a member of the Anti-Masonic party in Rochester, and later of the Whig party. Lavinia and her sister Carlisle McCraken died when the steamship Arctic collided with the vessel the Vesta near Newfoundland.
