Biography
Lewis Thornton Powell, also known by the alias Lewis Paine/Payne, was a co-conspirator in the Lincoln Assassination who was tasked with killing Secretary of State William Henry Seward. On the night of April 14th, Powell gained access to the Seward house in Washington D.C., where he succeeded in injuring Seward, as well as his sons Augustus, Frederick, George F. Robinson, and Emerick Hansell. Seward's daughter Fanny was also a witness to the attacks. After the attack he fled, and was later captured and executed along with his co-conspirators.
