Biography

Leonard was the son of Rev. Dr. Leonard Lathrop. William Seward was friends with Rev Lathrop, but he and Frances Seward, along with Lazette Worden, were not in favor of his son Leonard courting Frances Worden. Leonard had also asked, with the help of his father, if Worden could be a 'patron' of sorts to him in Canandaigua. That request was denied. (18451115FMS_LMW et al).  Leonard the son is usually listed as L. Lathrop or Mr. Lathrop, while his father is usually referred to as Dr. Lathrop in letters.
