Biography

Son of Gen. John Twiggs. David Twiggs was appointed as a captain of the 18th infantry during the War of 1812 and soon became a major. He also served during the Mexican-American war in Palo Alto, Resaca de la Palma, Monterey, Vera Cruz, and Mexico City. He surrendered his command for the Department of Texas to the Confederate Army in 1861. He was dishonorably discharged from the Union Army and made a major-general in the Confederate Army in the same year. He did in 1862.
