Biography

He was a Whig politician from Buffalo and worked with Millard Fillmore as his law partner. He was appointed by Governor WHS in 1839 as Master in Chancery for NY. He represented NY in the House from 1847-49, and served as United States Postmaster General under President Fillmore in 1850-1852, and later was an United States District Judge for New York from 1852-1874. During 1849, WHS was miffed with Vice President Fillmore for going out of his way to get his partner political appointments.
