Biography

After establishing a legal career in Georgia, George entered politics. He served in Georgia's House and the US House from 1837-1843. He then became the first (and only) Whig Governor of Georgia from 1843-1847. He was appointed Secretary of War by President Taylor from 1849-1850. He married Mary Ann MacIntosh in 1826. They had 4 children together: William Peter, Sarah MacIntosh, Anna Elizabeth, and Charles.
