Biography

Edmund P Gaines was a United States Army Major General awarded a gold medal and special commendation from Congress and commendations from the state legislatures of Virginia, Tennessee, and New York for gallantry at Fort Erie in 1814. He served under Andrew Jackson in the Creek and Seminole campaigns, and served in the Black Hawk War. Additionally, he arrested Aaron Burr, vice president under Thomas Jefferson's first term, for treason. Gaines was married three times to Frances Toulmin (d. 1811), Barbara Blount (d. 1836), and Myra Clark (d. 1885).
