Biography
Maria Jane Fletcher was an author who had published four works in volume form by the age of 30. Her published works include a collection of short stories, articles, and poems called Phantasmagoria, a collection of advice letters to young women (Letters to the Young,1828), a volume of poems (Lays of Leisure Hours,1829), and three novellas, published as The Three Histories (1830). She was born in 1800 as the eldest in a family of seven. After her mother died in 1819, she became responsible for her younger siblings. In the 1820's she contributed to newspapers such as the Manchester Gazette. In 1832 she married Reverend William Kew Fletcher. She died in 1833 from cholera.
