Biography

William Dickey was a cotton manufacturer and prominent citizen of Paterson, NJ. Dickey was heavily involved in local government, serving as the Surveyor of Highways in 1837, Commissioner of Appeals in 1838, and a Chosen Freeholder in 1842. From 1849-1853, Dickey served as the Postmaster General of the Paterson, NJ post office. After serving as Postmaster General, Dickey went back into cotton manufacturing as part of the firm Dickey & Taggert.
