Biography

Dudley S. Gregory was a prominent New Jersey Whig politician and businessman. In 1824, he was part of the guard of honor that received General Lafayette on his return to the United States. He later became the first mayor of Jersey City, serving three separate terms between 1838 and 1860. From 1847-1849, Gregory served one term in the US House of Representatives as the representative of New Jersey's 5th district. Gregory was heavily involved in banking and the railroad.
