Aaron Pitney was the brother of Joseph T. Pitney, and therefore also the son of Mahlon Pitney and Sarah Pitney. Both Joseph T. Pitney and Aaron Pitney became doctors. Aaron Pitney was a pupil of Dr. Smith and he served as surgeon in the war of 1812. He moved to Chicago in 1842, where he practiced homeopathy. He married Betsy H. Pitney, and, after her death. he married a Margaret Pitney. When he died he left "no lineal descendants."

Aaron Pitney is listed in the 1850 Cook County, Illinois census as being born in 1815. Other sources (such as the family tree linked below) cite his birth as early as 1793. Since he served in the war of 1812 as a surgeon, the 1793 birth date is the more plausible date. It is possible that his age was meant to be recorded as "55" rather than "35" in the 1850 census.
