Cornelius Clark was a colored man who lived in Washington, DC and worked as a hackman and then in the livery stable. He married Emily Clark, and his inferred children are David Clark, William Clark, Cornelius Clark, Thomas Clark, and Samuel Clark. 
In her letter November 30, 1849, Frances writes to Lazette from Washington, that when one of her stewards quits, she "went in pursuit of Cornelius Clark a coloured man whom I saw here last Spring— he said he could procure us a steward and would himself help us move."
