Biography

Prominent abolitionist from central New York who was one of the founders of the First Congregational Church in Syracuse and was part of the Vigilance Committee that formed in 1850 to resist the Fugitive Slave Law. He was a part of the "Jerry Trail" in 1851 that took place in Auburn after he was arrested for helping a fugitive, William "Jerry" Henry, flee a jail in Syracuse. He lived in NY and moved to Minnesota in 1860 where he is buried. He is said to have fathered 17 children.
