Chief defendant in 1851 trial of farmers in Leoni, Michigan by The People of the State of Michigan, acting on behalf of the Michigan Central Railroad, who accused the farmers of arson. William H. Seward served as counsel. Died in jail before trial ended. Mentioned in letter written by Frances Miller Seward to her son Augustus Henry Seward, dated September 01,1851.
