Thomas Pratt served as the governor of Maryland from 1845 to 1848 and then went on to serve as a Maryland senator from January 1850 to 1857. In a August 3,1850 letter from Francis Seward to William Henry Seward, a Mr. Pratt is mentioned and criticized. The "Mr. Pratt" in the letter is believed to be this Thomas Pratt due to a July 25, 1850 newspaper article in "The Daily Union" which transcribes tension between Sen. Pratt and Sen. Seward.
