Biography

Walker Brooke graduated from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville in 1835, was admitted to the bar in 1838, and commenced practice in Lexington, Mississippi. He was a member of the State house of representatives in 1848, a State senator in 1850 and 1852, and elected as a Whig to the US Senate in February 1852 to fill a vacancy after Henry S. Foote resigned. After he left the Senate in 1853, he practiced law until he was elected a member of the Provisional Confederate Congress from MS in 1861 for one year. He died in Vicksburg, MS on February 18, 1869.
