Biography

James Jones was born and raised in Tennessee as a farmer and attended an old-field school when he was young. He was a member of the State house of representatives in 1839, Governor of Tennessee from 1841-1845, and elected as a Whig to the US Senate and served from March 1851 to March 1857. He then retired to his farm in Memphis, TN, where he died in October of 1859.
