Philip Thurber was born circa 1795 in Vermont. By 1830 he had moved to New York, and can be found in the Utica census record for 1830. In 1840 he married Frances Thurber. At some point, Frances and Philip moved to Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. They can be found in the Detroit City Directories throughout the 1860s and 1870s. Philip worked as an insurance agent in Detroit. Philip died in 1878, and is buried in Rochester, New York. Frances is listed as a widow in the 1880 Detroit City Directory.
