Biography
Calvin Ellis Stowe was born in Massachusetts. In 1829 he became editor of the Boston "Recorder" the oldest religious paper in the United States. In 1830 he was appointed professor of Greek in Dartmouth. In 1832, he married Eliza Bennett. After her death, he married Elizabeth Beecher in 1836, and they had seven children together. In 1850 he accepted a professorship at Bowdoin. In 1853 and 1856 the two visited England together. In 1864 he resigned his professorship and moved to Connecticut. He died in 1886.
