Biography
Daniel Cady is the father of prominent feminist, suffragist, and abolitionist Elizabeth Cady Stanton. He was also a prominent lawyer and politician in New York State. He served as a state assemblyman from 1808-1813, before becoming the district attorney for the fifth district. In 1815, Cady was elected Congress as a Federalist representative from New York, where he served one term (1815-1817). After returning to his law practice, Cady served on the New York State Supreme Court from 1847-1855, and on the New York State Court of Appeals in 1853. He was involved in Republican politics until his death in 1859.
