Mary Yates is mentioned as part of a party by Frances Miller Seward to Lazette Worden in an undated letter from 1852. Fanny Adeline Seward lists Mary in her 1862-1863 diary, and says that when they stopped by to visit, they also saw Mr. and Mrs. Norris and Mrs. Yates. These would be the parents of her husband Septimus Henry Norris, William Jr. and Mary Ann Norris; and her own mother Eliza Jane Yates (nee Miller). Her father Edward Yates died when she was three years old.
