Biography
Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice was the 3rd Marquess of Lansdowne, son of the 1st Marquess of Lansdowne. He attended Edinburgh University and Trinity College. In 1802 he entered the House of Commons. He became Marquess of Lansdowne in 1809. His chief political interest was the question of Roman Catholic emancipation. I n the 1830s and 1840s he served as secretary for home affairs and lord president of the council. In 1857 he refused the offer a Dukedom. He was frequently consulted by the Queen on political matters. He married Louisa and was succeeded by his son, Henry, the 4th Marquess of Lansdowne.
