Junius Spencer Morgan

Biography
Junius Spencer Morgan was born in Springfield, MA, and grew up in Hartford, CT. In 1834, he moved to New York, entering the banking house of Morgan, Ketchum & Company. He later moved to Boston where he became involved in the dry goods business. In 1853, Morgan visited England and partnered with George Peabody. In 1864 he established the J.S. Morgan & Company, which became one of the largest banking houses in the world. The bank was originally located in England, but relocated in the last quarter of the nineteenth-century. From 1850 until 1890 he spent many years abroad, particularly in England. He died in France in 1890. Morgan married Juliet Pierpoint Morgan. They had four children: John Pierpoint Morgan, Sarah Morgan, Junius Spencer Morgan, and Juliet Pierpoint Morgan.
