Biography
Elizabeth Gaskell was born in England and was an English author. Some of her most famous works include, Mary Barton, Lizzie Leigh, The Grey Woman, My Lady Ludlow, Mr. Harrison's Confessions, Ruth, Cranford, North and South, Sylvia's Lovers, Wives and Daughters, and Cousin Phillis. She married William Gaskell in 1832 and was friends with Charlotte Bronte, Madame Mohl, and Charles Dickens. During the cotton famine of 1862 she organized sewing-rooms.
